Multiple People in Yunnan, China, Sentenced for Running a Pyramid Scheme Involving Virtual Currency Platform Development
On October 2, according to the Yunnan Legal System Newspaper, in February 2023, seven defendants conspired to build a network platform for investing in virtual currency. After reaching an agreement, they contacted a company in Sichuan and hired technicians to develop the “3M platform” and issue the token "Mavro Coin." They lured investors into the project by promising high profits from investing in virtual currency. Once the platform was built and operational, the seven defendants actively promoted the platform, emphasizing its high returns, and actively recruited investors offline. These recruits in turn recruited more investors.
Based on their roles in the crime, their level of involvement, their guilty pleas, and the amount of funds returned, the defendants were sentenced to prison terms ranging from two years and six months to one year and six months, with a suspended sentence and fines.
