"Puff Daddy" Sean Combs Hires SBF's Lawyer for Defense
Rapper and producer Sean "Diddy" Combs, who was charged with extortion and sex trafficking in New York, will hire the same lawyer as former FTX CEO SBF to represent him. In a notice of appeal filed on Monday, Alexandra Shapiro, a partner at the law firm Shapiro Arato Bach, was named as Combs' defense attorney. Shapiro has also been SBF's attorney since last year when he was convicted by a jury of defrauding investors. Prosecutors at the time called it "possibly the biggest fraud of the past decade" and compared it to Ponzi scheme mastermind Bernie Madoff. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Last month, Shapiro filed an appeal on SBF's behalf seeking a new trial. Shapiro criticized New York District Judge Lewis Kaplan's handling of the case and said SBF should not be barred from presenting certain evidence. Sources said that inmates in the area are separated but share some living spaces.
